Half of adults in Turkey are ready to endorse constitutional reform, according to a poll by MetroPOLL Strategic and Social Research Center. 50.6 % of respondents would back the changes in a referendum.

Baykal garners increased trust as a ‘victim,’ poll shows

A recent survey in Turkey has revealed that newly resigned Republican People’s Party (CHP) leader Deniz Baykal’s public image has improved compared to past months despite being at the center of a sex tape scandal, a finding that suggests that Baykal has been successful in portraying himself as a victim in the eyes of the public. Public confidence in the government headed by Yukio Hatoyama has eroded considerably in Japan, according to a poll by Mainichi. 51 per cent of respondents disapprove of the current cabinet, up 34 points since October 2009.

Many adults in Taiwan remain critical of the way Ma Ying-jeou is handling his duties, according to a poll by Global Views. 61.4 per cent of respondents are dissatisfied with their president’s performance, down 4.6 points since March.

Rating for Tsang Falls Slightly in Hong Kong

Public support for Hong Kong’s chief executive dropped this month, according to a poll by the Hong Kong University Public Opinion Programme. The support rate for Donald Tsang stands at 50.7 points, down 1.8 points since late March.

Educating Boys and Girls in the Muslim World

In all eight predominantly Muslim nations surveyed in 2009 a strong majority say it is equally important to educate girls and boys. This opinion is shared by more than eight-in-ten in Lebanon (96%), Indonesia (93%), Turkey (89%), Pakistan (87%) and the Palestinian territories (85%).

Young, Less Educated Yearn to Migrate to the U.S.

Fifteen countries attract about 500 million of the roughly 700 million adults worldwide who say they would like to relocate permanently to another country if they could. Gallup finds the U.S. is clearly the No. 1 desired destination among these potential migrants, with more than 165 million saying they would like to move there, and neighboring Canada is a distant second with 45 million.

Palestinians Reject Land Exchange as Part of Deal

Residents of the West Bank and Gaza Strip are opposed to the creation of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders with some land exchange as part of a final solution to the current impasse with Israel, according to a poll by An-Najah National University. 66.7 per cent of respondents reject this notion.

A large proportion of adults in Israel would reject a prospective demand by U.S. president Barack Obama, according to a poll by Maagar Mochot. 70 per cent of respondents think Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu should not freeze construction in Jerusalem for an unlimited period of time.

Liberal Party (PLP) presidential nominee Benigno Aquino III remains the frontrunner in the Philippines, according to a poll by Social Weather Stations. 37 per cent of respondents would vote for Aquino in next month’s election.

Global Views of United States Improve While Other Countries Decline

Global views of the United States have improved markedly over the last year while views of many countries have become more negative, according to the latest BBC World Service poll across 28 countries. For the first time since the BBC started tracking in 2005, views of the United States' influence in the world are now more positive than negative on average.

Israeli Public's Support for Dismantling Most Settlements Has Risen to a Five-Year High

A survey of the Israeli general public and Israeli settlers taken in early March shows three-fifths of the Israeli public (60%) support "dismantling most of the settlements in the territories as part of a peace agreement with the Palestinians." This is eleven points higher than the previous reading (49%) taken in December, 2009.

As compared with other parts of the world, sub-Saharan Africa is the most religious zone in the world. The vast majority of people in many sub-Saharan African nations are deeply committed to the practices and major tenets of one or the other of the world's two largest religions, Christianity and Islam, though traditional African religious beliefs and practices have not disappeared. Rather, they coexist with Islam and Christianity.
