Palestinians Pessimistic About Reunification of West Bank and Gaza
While the popularity of Abbas and Fateh increases and the popularity of Ismail Haniyeh and Hamas decreases, and while the public shows some enthusiasm for a strong American role in the peace process and greater support for the Arab Peace Initiative, Palestinians are pessimistic about the chances for the reunification of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip and are less willing to accept concessions in a permanent settlement.

A significant number of people in Thailand want the legislature to be dissolved in order to vote in a new general election, according to a poll by ABAC. 34.5 per cent of respondents say an early ballot is the best solution to current political instability.

A new WorldPublicOpinion.org poll of 17 nations finds that publics in 15 countries favor the general practice of having international observers monitor elections. In eleven of the nations, most people think that their own country would benefit from international observers monitoring their elections.

(PEW) Support for Osama bin Laden has declined considerably among Muslim publics in recent years. Moreover, majorities or pluralities among eight of the nine Muslim publics surveyed this year say that suicide bombing and other forms of violence against civilians can never be justified to defend Islam; only in the Palestinian territories does a majority endorse such attacks.
